Epigenetic regulation in lymphomas

This projects aims to determine the molecular basis of an epigenetically encoded mechanism of chemotherapy resistance in aggressive lymphomas and its reversal by demethylating agents. In this work we combine data obtained from genome-wide analysis of gene expression and DNA methylation in cell lines and patient samples to obtaine a core of differentially methylated and expressed genes that are associated with response to chemotherapy agents and immunomodulatory agents. This work led to a national multi-center clinical trial to further test this concept. More recently, our lab contributed to establish the basis of epigenetic evolution in lymphomas and how this could lead to treatment resistant and increased heterogeneity.
